- Statute Update (Smaller Government) Bill 2017 - Third Reading - Pass the bill
Description
<p class="speaker">Anne Ruston</p>
<p>I move:</p>
<p class="italic">That this bill be now read a third time.</p>
- The majority voted in favour of passing [the bill](http://parlinfo.aph.gov.au/parlInfo/search/display/display.w3p;query=Id:legislation/billhome/r5918) in the Senate. In parliamentary jargon, they voted to [read the bill for third time](https://www.peo.gov.au/learning/fact-sheets/making-a-law.html).
- Since the bill has already been passed in the House of Representatives, it can now become law.
- ### What did the bill do?
- The bill is part of the [Turnbull](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/wentworth/malcolm_turnbull) Government's [smaller government agenda](https://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Bills_Legislation/bd/bd1718a/18bd035) and abolishes the following seven Commonwealth statutory advisory bodies that were deemed ‘unnecessary’:
- * Tradespersons’ rights committees (TRCs);
- * Oil Stewardship Advisory Council (OSAC);
- * Product Stewardship Advisory Group (PSAG);
- * Advisory Group of the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA Advisory Group);
- * Plant Breeder’s Rights Advisory Committee (PBRAC);
- * Development Allowance Authority (DAA); and
- * Corporations and Markets Advisory Committee (CAMAC).
