Bills — Fair Work (Registered Organisations) Amendment Bill 2014 [No. 2]; Second Reading
Passed by a small majority
No rebellions 81% attendance
Division last edited 3rd Nov 2016 by mackay staff
The majority did not agree with the main idea of the bill and so have rejected it. This means that it won't be considered any further. In parliamentary jargon, they voted against reading the bill for a second time.
The Government has tried to pass a bill like this several times over the past few years but hasn't been successful.
The bill was introduced to establish the Registered Organisations Commission to investigate and monitor unions and employer organisations. It also imposes a similar standard disclosure and transparency on union officials as company directors and introduces tougher criminal sanctions.
