Summary

Edit

The majority voted against a motion that would have delayed debate on this bill until 19 August 2019. The motion had been introduced by Labor MP Tony Burke because

it is the view of the opposition that the next stage of these tax cuts are not affordable. The budget has made that clear. Therefore, it should be considered at a later date, rather than at the next sitting.

About the bill

The purpose of the bill is to:

progressively extend the lower 27.5 per cent corporate tax rate to all corporate tax entities by the 2023-24 financial year; and further reduce the corporate tax rate in stages so that by the 2026 27 financial year, the corporate tax rate for all entities will be 25 per cent
