voted compared to someone who believes that
the federal government should ensure that all Australians have access to abortion services
The majority voted in favour of a motion to congratulate the New South Wales Parliament for passing a bill to decriminalise abortion. It was introduced by NSW Senator Mehreen Faruqi (Greens).
This was a free vote (also known as a conscience vote), which means that senators could vote according to their own will rather than according to their party position.
That the Senate—
(a) notes that the New South Wales Parliament passed a Bill to decriminalise abortion on 25 September 2019; and
(b) congratulates and thanks all the women and activists who have worked tirelessly for decades to achieve this important reform.
Passed by a small majority
How "never voted" is worked out
Normally a person's votes count towards a score which is used to work out a simple
phrase to summarise their position on a policy. However in this case
was absent during all divisions for this policy. So, it's impossible to say anything concrete other
than that they have "never voted" on this policy.
