Title

Description

 • The majority voted against a [motion](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/senate/?id=2024-09-11.133.2) introduced by Queensland Senator [Pauline Hanson](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/senate/queensland/pauline_hanson) (One Nation), which means it failed.
 • ### Motion text
 • > *That there be laid on the table by the Minister representing the Minister for Resources, by no later than 10 am on Tuesday, 17 September 2024, the expert analysis of the viability of the Laminaria and Carollinea oil fields used by the Australian Government to decide to decommission the Northern Endeavour facility and remediate the Laminaria-Corallina oil fields and infrastructure.*
 • #### Rebel voter
 • Queensland Senator [Gerard Rennick](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/senate/queensland/gerard_rennick) (Liberal) rebelled against the rest of the Liberal Party and voted Yes while the rest of his party voted No.
 • #### No rebellion
 • Note that Queensland Senator [Gerard Rennick](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/senate/queensland/gerard_rennick) (Independent) is currently listed as a rebel voter but this is inaccurate because Senator Rennick is no longer part of the Liberal Party and is instead now an independent senator.

 •
The government will be opposing this motion. The decision to decommission the Northern Endeavour was a decision taken by the former government in 2021. It may be the case that the former government's decision to decommission the Northern Endeavour was informed by expert analysis, but we don't have access to advice provided to the former government and no documentation of the type described has been furnished to the Minister for Resources, the Hon. Madeleine King MP. We oppose the motion on that basis.

 •
The question is that general business notice of motion No. 604, standing in the name of Senator Hanson, be agreed to.
