Summary

Edit

The majority voted against an amendment to the usual second reading motion, which is that the bill be read for a second time (parliamentary jargon for agreeing with the main idea of the bill). This means that the original second reading motion will remain unchanged.

Amendment text

At the end of the motion, add ", but the Senate calls on the Government to compensate small businesses for the time required to administer the payment of instalments of parental leave pay under the Paid Parental Leave Act 2010, whether by direct payment or tax offset".
