  • <p>I move my second reading amendment on sheet 2107:</p>
  • The majority voted against an [amendment](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/senate/?gid=2023-09-13.19.1) to the usual second reading motion, which is "*that the bill be read a second time*" (parliamentary jargon for agreeing with the main idea of the bill).

  • > *At the end of the motion, add ", but the Senate calls on the Albanese Government to:*
  • >
  • > *(a) recognise:*
  • >
  • >> *(i) that Australia is already the fourth quickest builder of housing in the entire OECD;*
  • >>
  • >> *(ii) the decision to allow over 1 million arrivals from net immigration and student visas in 12 months is the primary driver of the housing crisis;*
  • >>
  • >> *(iii) no amount of public expenditure on housing can fix the crisis facing Australians without significant change to the demand side of housing economics; and*
  • >
  • > *(b) abandon its irresponsible immigration intake in order to address the housing crisis".*
