Summary

Edit

The majority voted in favour of an amendment to the usual second reading motion, which is "that the bill be read a second time". To read a bill for a second time is to agree with its main idea.

Note that amendments like these don't make any legal changes on their own, but can be politically influential as they represent the will of the Senate.

Amendment text

At the end of the motion, add ", but the Senate calls on the Inspector-General of Aged Care to consider the current workforce constraints facing the aged care sector as a priority".

Votes Passed by a modest majority

Nobody rebelled against their party.
