Summary

Edit

The majority voted in favour of a motion introduced by West Australian Senator Jordon Steele-John (Greens), which means it was successful.

Motion text

That the Senate—

(a) notes that:

(i) order for the production of documents no. 253 relating to the National Disability Insurance Scheme Financial Sustainability Framework, made on 19 June 2023, has not been complied with, and

(ii) the Treasurer, in his response to the order, made a claim of public interest immunity on the basis that it would be detrimental to relations between the Commonwealth and the states and territories;

(b) rejects the public interest immunity claim made by the Treasurer, noting that the public interest in disclosing the document outweighs any potential prejudice to relations between the Commonwealth and the states and territories; and

(c) requires the Minister representing the Treasurer to comply with the order by no later than 4.30 pm on 22 June 2023.
