A majority of the Senate voted in favour of a motion moved by Greens Senator Sarah Hanson-Young to delay further consideration on the second reading and subsequent stages of the Housing Australia Future Fund Bill 2023, the National Housing Supply and Affordability Council Bill 2023 and the Treasury Laws Amendment (Housing Measures No. 1) Bill 2023 to 16 October 2023.

The motion was supported by the Greens, the Coalition and the United Australia Party, and opposed by Labor, the Jacqui Lambie Network and independent Senator David Pocock.

Motion text

That, to allow time for National Cabinet to progress reforms to strengthen renters' rights as advised in the Prime Minister's press release of 28 April 2023, including reforms to limit rent increases, further consideration of the Housing Australia Future Fund Bill 2023 and two related bills be made an order of the day for 16 October 2023.
