Summary

Edit

The majority voted against a motion introduced by NSW Senator Mehreen Faruqi (Greens) to suspend the usual procedural rules of parliament - known as standing orders - in order to allow her to move another motion. This means that second motion cannot be introduced.

This motion was an attempt to get parliament to consider Senator Faruqi's bill Education and Other Legislation Amendment (Abolishing Indexation and Raising the Minimum Repayment Income for Education and Training Loans) Bill 2022.

Motion text

That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent me moving a motion relating to the conduct of business, namely a motion to provide for the consideration of the Education and Other Legislation Amendment (Abolishing Indexation and Raising the Minimum Repayment Income for Education and Training Loans) Bill 2022.
