Summary

Edit

The majority voted in favour of a motion moved by South Australian Senator Simon Birmingham (Liberal), which means it passed. These motions don't make any legal changed on their own, but they are politically influential as they represent the will of the Senate.

Motion text

That, in the opinion of the Senate, the following is a matter of urgency:

The need for the Senate to recognise that AUKUS expresses Australia's ambition for enduring peace and prosperity in our region, and to reject criticism from former Prime Minister Paul Keating that it is the worst deal in our history.

Votes Passed by a modest majority

Nobody rebelled against their party.
