•
As a result of deferred votes, I'm going to put the question on second reading amendments. The question is that the second reading amendment moved by Senator Rice be agreed to. Is a division required?

 •
Louise Pratt

 •
I just want to draw to Senator Babet's attention that if he calls for them he has to vote with that side as well.

 • The majority voted against an [amendment](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/senate/?gid=2023-03-08.185.1) introduced by Victorian Senator [Janet Rice](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/senate/victoria/janet_rice) (Greens) to the usual second reading motion, which is "that the bill be read a second time". To read a bill for a [second time](https://peo.gov.au/understand-our-parliament/how-parliament-works/bills-and-laws/making-a-law-in-the-australian-parliament/) is to agree with its main idea.
 • ### Amendment text
 • > *At the end of the motion, add ", but the Senate calls on the Government and the Therapeutic Goods Administration to urgently remove barriers to gay and bisexual men, trans women and some non-binary people who have sex with men giving blood, including by replacing the current approach of a population-based risk assessment and the 3-month deferral period with an approach based on an individual risk assessment".*
