30th Mar 2022, 8:04 PM – Senate Social Security Legislation Amendment (Streamlined Participation Requirements and Other Measures) Bill 2021 - Second Reading - Abolish Work for the Dole program
Summary
EditThe majority voted against an amendment to the usual second reading motion, which is "that the bill be read for a second time" - parliamentary jargon for agreeing with the main idea of the bill. Because this vote failed, the usual second reading motion will remain unchanged.
Amendment text
At the end of the motion, add ", but the Senate:
(a) notes that punitive mutual obligations have unfairly restricted people's access to income support; and
(b) calls on the Government to abolish the Work for the Dole program and provide income support to everyone who needs it".
