3rd Aug 2021, 5:51 PM – Senate Regulations and Determinations - Industry Research and Development - Disallow two instruments
Summary
EditThe majority voted against two motions introduced by Tasmanian Senator Nick McKim (Greens) on behalf of Victorian Senator Janet Rice (Greens), which means they failed. The motions were to disallow two instruments - that is, stop them from having legal force.
Senator Rice explained that:
We are moving to disallow these two regulations because the last thing that we should be doing in a climate emergency is handing over over $300 million in subsidies to fossil fuel companies—to the oil industry. Handing over subsidies to fossil fuel companies is the exact opposite of what we should be doing in a climate emergency.
