What is the bill's main idea?
According to the explanatory memorandum, the bill was introduced "to ensure ongoing confidentiality protections for people giving evidence to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of People with Disability (the Disability Royal Commission)."
In the words of the bill homepage:
to apply the limits on the use and disclosure of information given to the Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation of People with Disability (the commission) in private session, and the restrictions on the ability of such private session information to be used in evidence against the person who gave the information, to information given to the commission for purposes other than in a private session, where the commission has indicated the information is to be treated as confidential and has treated it as such
