That the provisions of the Commonwealth Electoral Amendment Bill 2016 be referred to the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters for inquiry and report by 12 May 2016.
The Commonwealth Electoral Amendment Bill 2016 is the bill concerning the widely-discussed changes to the way Senate elections work.
Given that the report was scheduled to be tabled on 2 March, this motion was to delay discussion of the Bill for roughly 2 months.
