The majority voted in favour of a [http://www.openaustralia.org/senate/?id=2012-09-11.5.2 motion] introduced by Labor Senator [http://publicwhip-test.openaustraliafoundation.org.au/mp.php?mpn=Kate_Lundy&mpc=Senate&house=senate Kate Lundy]. The motion is:
''That, for the purposes of [http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/cth/consol_act/ma1958118/s198ab.html section 198AB] of the Migration Act 1958, the Senate approves the designation of the [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nauru Republic of Nauru] as a regional processing country, by instrument made on 10 September 2012.''
Since a resolution to this effect has already passed in the House of Representatives,(See ABC News for more [http://www.abc.net.au/news/2012-09-10/an-nauru2c-manus-prepare-for-asylum-seekers/4252052 here]. Also this World Today [http://www.abc.net.au/worldtoday/content/2012/s3586628.htm report].) passing this motion means that Nauru can now to designated as a regional processing country.
