Summary

Edit

An equal number of senators voted in favour and against a motion introduced by Senator Barnaby Joyce. The motion was:

That the Petroleum Retail Marketing Sites Amendment Regulations 2006 (No. 1), as contained in Select Legislative Instrument 2006 No. 73 and made under the Petroleum Retail Marketing Sites Act 1980, be disallowed.

Senator Joyce explained that he brought this motion because the Regulations "completely disavow the principle set down by the Petroleum Retail Marketing Franchise Act 1980 and the Petroleum Retail Marketing Sites Act 1980".(Read Senator Joyce's explanation of the motion here. )

Senator Joyce rebelled and crossed the floor to vote 'aye' in favour of his amendment.(Read more about what it means to cross the floor in our FAQ Section. )

This is the second division on this motion.(See that previous division here.)
