  • <p>I seek leave to move the following motion:</p>
  • <p class="italic">That the House:</p>
  • The majority voted in favour of a [motion](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/debates/?id=2020-06-18.3.2) to stop Kennedy MP [Bob Katter](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/kennedy/bob_katter) (Katter's Australia Party), which means it passed. Motions like these are known as *gagging motions*.
  • <p class="italic">(1) notes that:</p>
  • <p class="italic">(a) on the 17th February 2020 General Motors announced the retirement of the Holden Brand in Australia; and</p>
  • <p class="italic">(b) the Government's free trade agreements have destroyed our Australian manufacturing industry;</p>
  • <p class="italic">(2) acknowledges that the Government must build our way out of a COVID-19 economic depression with 'make money' projects; and</p>
  • <p class="italic">(3) calls on the Government to:</p>
  • <p class="italic">(a) support the reestablishment of an Australian car manufacturing industry with a majority Australian shareholding; and</p>
  • <p class="italic">(b) put relevant policies in place to ensure that all cars purchased by the Federal Government are made in Australia.</p>
  • <p>Leave not granted.</p>

  • <p class="italic">That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent the Member for Kennedy from moving the following motion:</p>
  • <p class="italic">That the House:</p>
  • <p class="italic">(1) notes that:</p>
