In parliamentary jargon, they voted in favour of suspending the usual rules - known as [standing orders](https://peo.gov.au/understand-our-parliament/how-parliament-works/parliament-at-work/standing-orders/) - which means the [third reading motion](https://peo.gov.au/understand-our-parliament/how-parliament-works/bills-and-laws/making-a-law-in-the-australian-parliament/) - the vote on whether to pass the bill - can take place "without delay".
