Title

• Business Consideration of Legislation
• Business - Consideration of Legislation - Let another vote happen

Description

•
Kevin Hogan

•
In accordance with standing order 133(b), I shall now proceed to put the question on the motion moved by the honourable member for Grayndler on which a division was called for and deferred in accordance with standing orders. No further debate is allowed.

• The majority voted in favour of a [motion](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/debates/?id=2018-12-04.87.2) to suspend the usual procedural rules - known as [standing orders](https://peo.gov.au/understand-our-parliament/how-parliament-works/parliament-at-work/standing-orders/) - in order to let another vote place. However, since an absolute majority was not formed, the motion failed anyway.
• ### Rebel voter
• There was one rebel in this vote, with Chisholm MP [Julia Banks](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/chisholm/julia_banks) (Liberal) crossing the floor to vote 'Yes' against the rest of the Liberal Party, which voted 'No.'
• ### Motion text
• > *That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent the [Member for Grayndler](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/grayndler/anthony_albanese) from moving the following motion forthwith:*
• >
• > *That so much of the standing orders be suspended as would prevent private Members’ business order of the day No. 8 relating to the High Speed Rail Planning Authority Bill 2018 standing in the name of the Member for Grayndler being called on immediately and being given priority over all other business for passage through all stages by 1.30 pm today.*
•
Tony Smith

•
The question is that the motion moved by the honourable member for Grayndler be agreed to.
