  • <p class="italic">That the second reading be made an order of the day for the next sitting.</p>
  • The majority voted in favour of a [motion](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/debates/?id=2018-06-18.37.1) to "put the question". In other words, they voted to end debate on whether to postpone debate on this bill and vote immediately on that question.

  • <p class="italic">That all words after "That" be omitted with a view to substituting the following words:</p>
  • <p class="italic">"the motion for the second reading be proceeded with immediately."</p>
  • <p>This parliament could axe the tampon tax today. We could do it today. The bill has just passed the Senate and, if the government makes enough time in the House for us to deal with it and if the government comes around to support the majority of Australians and the Senate in recognising that we are taxing women for being women and that there is no place in Australia for this discriminatory tax, we could remove this unfair burden today. At the moment, there are necessities that are not subject to the GST. Toothpaste in this country is not subject to the GST.</p>
