- The majority voted against a [motion](http://www.openaustralia.org.au/debate/?id=2016-04-19.10.2) to suspend [standing orders](http://www.peo.gov.au/learning/fact-sheets/standing-orders.html) to let Labor MP [Anthony Albanese](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/grayndler/anthony_albanese) to move a motion related to his bill, the [High Speed Rail Planning Authority Bill 2016](http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Bills_Legislation/Bills_Search_Results/Result?bId=r5531).
- Albanese MP wanted to speed up discussion on his bill so that it didn't lapse due to Parliament dissolving and the approaching election. However, since this motion was unsuccessful, it seems likely that the bill will now lapse ([as indeed happened](http://www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentary_Business/Bills_Legislation/Bills_Search_Results/Result?bId=r5531)).
