  • <p>I seek leave to move the following motion:</p>
  • The majority voted for a [motion](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/debate/?id=2015-11-26.89.1) introduced by Leader of the House and Sturt MP [Christopher Pyne](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/sturt/christopher_pyne), which means it passed. The motion was to stop the Isaacs MP [Mark Dreyfus](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/isaacs/mark_dreyfus) from speaking about his [motion to censure](https://www.openaustralia.org.au/debate/?id=2015-11-26.88.3) the Prime Minister [Malcolm Turnbull](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/wentworth/malcolm_turnbull).
  • A *censure* is extreme disapproval in a member (typically a minister), or the entire government, generally calling for the member to resign if it passes.

  • The motion was to stop [Mark Dreyfus](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/isaacs/mark_dreyfus) from speaking. Mr Dreyfus had just moved his own motion, and was beginning to explain it when Mr Pyne moved this motion to silence him. Here's what Mr Dreyfus was saying:

  • >>> *(a) when asked on 60 Minutes if he had asked James Ashby to procure copies of Peter Slipper's diary for him, the now Special Minister of State admitted - and I quote, "Yes, I did";*

  • >>> *(b) the Special Minister of State is referred to in an Australian Federal Police search warrant in relation to two separate criminal offences under the Criminal Code Act 1995 and the Crimes Act 1914;*

  • >>> *(c) the Minister's actions in relation to the Ashby affair render him completely unfit to have ministerial responsibility for Government integrity as the Special Minister of State;*

  • <p class="italic">(a) complete lack of judgement in appointing the Member for Fisher as the Special Minister of State when he was fully aware of the extent of the Minister's involvement in the Ashby affair; and</p>
  • <p class="italic">(b) failure to show leadership and dismiss or even stand aside the Special Minister of State from his ministerial responsibilities.</p>
