Title
Bills — Family Assistance Legislation Amendment (Cheaper Child Care) Bill 2022; Second Reading
- Family Assistance Legislation Amendment (Cheaper Child Care) Bill 2022 - Second Reading - Free universal early childhood education and care
Description

Scott Buchholz

The original question was that the bill be read a second time, to which the honourable member for Moncrieff moved, as amendment, that all words after 'that' be omitted with a view to substituting other words. The honourable member for Griffith has moved, as an amendment to that amendment, that all words after 'reading' be omitted with a view to substituting other words. The immediate question is that the amendment moved by the honourable member for Griffith be disagreed to.

-
- The majority voted in favour of *disagreeing* with an amendment introduced by Griffith MP [Max Chandler-Mather](https://theyvoteforyou.org.au/people/representatives/griffith/max_chandler-mather) (Greens), which means it failed.
- Note that this is an amendment to a [second reading](https://peo.gov.au/understand-our-parliament/how-parliament-works/bills-and-laws/making-a-law-in-the-australian-parliament/) motion, which means that it would have no legal force even if it had succeeded. Instead, these types of motions are symbolic and represent the will of the House majority.
